"Disadvantages of Single Parenting"

Q: What is the disadvantage of single parenting?

A: This is a emotionally laden topic because there are so many single parents out there doing fantastic jobs with children. It is my opinion that children benefit most when they have two HEALTHY parents involved in their lives. You will notice I said "involved" and not necessarily "present" physically. Uninvolved, unhealthy parents can do even more damage to kids.

Therefore a major disadvantage of single parenting is not being healthy or involved with children. The difficulty with this is that single parents have fewer resources in time, money, and energy as parents. There is no one to share the living costs, bedtime chores, or attend two different soccer games for two children. Single parents do themselves and their children damage when they pretend to be all things to their children. Single parents sacrifice their own needs and wants for their children, employers, neighbors, strangers -- you get the picture. You can't give what you don't have, so not taking some time for yourself or hiring a babysitter or letting the dirty floor go for a few days is a disadvantage for everyone.
